I Can’t Eat Five Times a Day Because…

When I was in fourth grade, my teacher would sing an annoying song every time someone had an excuse for not having their homework.

    She’d croon:
    Ex-cu-ses, ex-cu-ses, ex-cu-ses everyday.
    I hear’m and hear’m and hear’m and hear’m,
    They just won’t go away.

That song alone made me do my homework.
Now, I don’t sing to myself when I make excuses, I work through them instead. When I first started eating macronutrient meals, I found several reasons why I just could not do it:

    1. The food is too expensive: Chicken breasts, salmon, lean cuts of beef, fresh vegetables. The food bill was ridiculous.

    2. I don’t have the time to stay in the kitchen all day cooking. I have a life.

    3. Eating six times a day, on time or close to it is impossible. My life is crazy.

    4. These foods are just too boring to keep eating every day.

    5. I’m sure there’s an easier way to lose weight besides doing all this meal-preparation stuff.

Instead of just tossing excuses at myself, I used scientific measurements to determine if I was lying to myself about why I actually couldn’t eat a macronutrient diet. The first test on my list was the expense test.
