Mimicking the Effects of Accutane without all of the Side Effects and Extreme Costs

Using Accutane can be a daunting undertaking and seriously tax the
body. This is because Accutane acts as if the entire body has acne as
opposed to one particular area. For this reason, the skin all over the
body can become excessively dry and peel off while one takes
Accutane.

Accutane helps to normalize the functions of the hair follicle where the
sebaceous glands are located. Accutane lowers the production of
sebum, slows the growth of a bacterium called Propionibacterium
acnes (P. acnes), and reduces inflammation. The drug is praised for its
ability to seemingly affect the key underlying causes of acne
formation.

The same conditions can be mimicked exclusively in the area where
acne is present by following a few simple steps. To mimic what
Accutane does, one needs to accomplish the same beneficial things
that Accutane does which are:

  • Reduce excess oil secretion by the sebaceous glands
  • Encourage extreme shedding of the skin
  • Reduce the spread of infection
  • Reduce inflammation

In the section below, I will explain how you can accomplish all three
of these things with diet and a sound skin-care regimen.

Reduce excess oil secretion by the sebaceous glands

Accutane is a derivative of vitamin A. Vitamin A reduces the secretion
of oil by the oil glands. However, for extensive periods of time,
overuse of vitamin A can be fatal, also pregnant women should use
vitamin A supplements with caution.

To achieve the benefits of Vitamin A’s oil reducing abilities, some
holistic health practitioners advise taking 25,000 UI each day for a
period of 2 weeks. Then reduce this dosage to 10,000 UI each day for
three weeks, and then reduce the dosage to 5,000 IU each day for two
weeks.

The dosage however will depend on your specific needs and
how you respond to Vitamin A. These numbers are only suggestions.
Keep in mind that more is not better because daily does of Vitamin A
above 50000 IU can cause dizziness, blurred vision, headache and
nausea.

I prefer to eat my vitamins. There is whole array of foods that will
supply you with Vitamin A and beta-carotene (which is converted to
vitamin A by the body) that include:

Liver, oily fish, milk, cheese, whole eggs, carrots, sweet potato, winter
squash, broccoli, Brussels spouts, collard greens, kale, spinach,
pumpkin, squash, apricots, cantaloupe, peaches, nectarines, mango,
and papaya. You can also drink vegetable juice.

If you will recall from earlier chapters, persons who eat fresh fruits
such as mangos and papaya will experience a healing crisis where they
will actually experience more pumps for a few days before their acne
gets better.

Please do not let this deter you. For example, when I first
used Super Colon Cleanse, which contains papaya and fiber, I
experience a healing crisis.

For almost a week I had large pimples
covering my entire face. Realizing that this was temporary helped me
endure the makeover. A week later I received compliments on the
brightness and clarity of my skin from people who had not seen me in
over month.

Having acne means your body needs a healing. Be patient and allow
this healing crisis, which may last only 2-3 days, to reveal a healthier
more beautiful you.

Encourage extreme shedding of the skin

Using a peel is the easiest method to promote shedding of the skin.
Shedding the skin is important to preventing acne because a build-up
of dead skin cells can clog the pores and lead to the formation of more
acne.

Peels are also important because they promote rapid cell
turnover, which reveals healthier skin. Additionally, since peels can go
deep into the skin, they help remove old and embedded waste in the
skin that causes congestion and acne.

Extreme peels

Peels come in varying degrees, from very mild to harsh. One extreme
peel is the trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel. This peel can cost from
$100 to $500 depending on the degree of the treatment, and it is only
performed in a doctor’s office.

This peel, like Accutane, dries up all
the impurities beneath the skin that can cause acne. Meanwhile it also
causes extensive peeling of the skin. You may look horrible dur ing the
week of the peel.

For instance your skin may appear burned. And,
scales of dead skin will peel and hang from your face. But under no
circumstances can you pull off the scaling skin, it must shed naturally.

However, this relatively short period of horror may be worth the
sacrifice. The end result is that your skin looks a lot smoother and
clearer afterwards. Plus, many, if not all of you acne scars may be
removed by the treatment.

However, the TCA is not a save all. This peel can make your skin
sensitive to the sun. Also, since this peel could cause hyperpigmentation, it is not ideal for persons with medium to dark skin
pigmentation.

Remember, however, that this treatment is not a cure. Dealing with
acne requires work, which is why you would need to return to have the
treatment performed again in a few weeks or months if you had not
decoded your acne messages.

Even persons who have taken Accutane
have had to continue taking Accutane for short periods of time to treat
flare- ups after their initial Accutane treatment. To cease this repletion, interpret your acne messages. This way you can avoid costly peels and drugs.

Peels that you can do yourself

In the previous chapters I outlined various inexpensive peels that you
can perform yourself. I highly encourage you to do peels yourself
because they are relatively inexpensive and crucial to optimal skin
care.

Have you noticed that skin care professionals recommend doing
peels and microdermabrasion in a series of sessions? Save yourself
some money and do it yourself. Even if you cannot buy a peel, you can
make one at home. Just make sure that you are consistent with the
peels.

To encourage extreme shedding, you can safely use a light peel,
such a papaya peel, everyday for a month.
Please refer to Appendix G for a series of peels that you can
inexpensively create at home.

Reduce the spread of infection

Methods for reducing the spread of infection are discussed in the
Disinfecting the skin section. Please refer to this section for instruction on this topic.

Reduce inflammation

One of the simplest methods by far to reduce inflammation is to drink
fresh squeezed lemon juice (without any sugar added). The citric acids
within the lemon have the ability to break up thick mucus within the
body and remove toxins.

You can enjoy other citrus fruits such as
oranges, pineapples and strawberries. But lemons have much more
citric acid than fruits like the oranges.

To reap the cleansing benefits of lemons, I suggest preparing a gallon
of lemon water. This is easy to make. Just squeeze about 5-6 lemons
into a gallon of water and drink it all throughout the day. You can add
more lemons if you please.

To ease the sourness of the juice, you can
add a little (tablespoon) of honey to the gallon of the lemon water. But
try first to accustom yourself to the lemon water because it’s the
sourness that makes it so effective.

Drink a gallon of lemon water each day for 2-3 days to reduce inflammation. Then have a glass of lemon water daily to help keep inflammation at bay.

Also, you can use ice to reduce inflammation on the surface of the
skin. This topic is covered in the Applying the ice section.
